Indulge in an evening of fun and celebration as Aalim School Inver Grove Heights locations are transformed into a lively market filled with beautiful dance, exciting music, live entertainment, delicious food, colorful merchants, and much more!*

Visit the "Little Fishawy Cafe" for delicious refreshments (catered by Mediterranean Cruise Cafe and other retailers--included with your admission.)
Make an appointment with the henna artist.
Shop for costumes, dance attire, jewelry, accessories, veils, and other beautiful goodies with local vendors including Sara Cura, a costume consignment rack, and more.
Get a chair massage to relax your tired muscles.
Participate in the Drum-and-dance jam (bring your drums and zills!)
Want to perform? Sign up for a turn as the cafe dancer! (10 minutes maximum per performer or act. Space is appropriate for soloists or duets.)
Enjoy the Festival Gala Show featuring the Al-Bahira Dance Theater troupe, and other wonderful local talent including professional soloists, and invited guest artists.

Admission*: (To help us cover the cost of the events)

$12 Adult general admission (ages 13 and up)

$ 5 Children ages 3-12 (children under 3 are free)

$2 Discount for you and 1 adult guest if you are an Aalim School student or Guild of Oriental Dance member!

(Aalim School discount valid for all students who attended an Aalim School class or workshop in 2007 or for students who sign up for fall Aalim School classes or workshops, including those who register the night of the event. Guild discount valid for members from the '06-'07 season or '07-'08 season.)

* Please note: Admission to the souk, the Gala Show, drum jam, and refreshments are included in the price of admission. Services of the henna artists, chair massage, or vendor purchases are extra at the discretion of the individual, scheduling permitting.

What is the "Festival in the Souk"?

Souk is the term for a market or commercial area in an Arabic town. In Egypt, moulids, or festivals (generally based on religious holidays) are celebrated by the entire town. The markets are hung with colorful banners and lights, and people of the community come together with music, food, and lively celebration.

It is in this spirit that Al-Bahira and Aalim School present our own "Festival In the Souk"--a celebration of our community right here in Minnesota. We hope you'll join us!
